The Seaspray Motel sits absolute seaside at Waiomu Bay a beautiful 14 kilometre coastal drive north from the gorgeous historic town of Thames.
We're an awesome little motel to base yourself while you explore Thames and the Coromandel Peninsula by day and then relax to watch the sun setting from your deck by evening.
Just down the road, opposite the beach reserve is Waiomu Beach Cafe for coffee, ice cream, gourmet pizza and delicious brunch and lunch meals. A fishing shop beside the cafe provides for all your fishing and bait needs. And yes, it's true, you can catch fish from outside your unit!
The Waiomu Coast to Kauri walk is a gentle native bush walk that takes about 2 hours return, featuring giant native New Zealand Kauri trees.
Within a 5 minute drive you'll find a couple of general stores that do fish and chips and takeaways (one also has fuel pumps) and a pub. There are several excellent local fishing charters. Historic Coromandel town is a spectacular scenic 45 minute drive from here.
In little over an hour you can drive through the Tapu Coroglen Road (make sure you stop at the Rapaura Gardens and cafe) to the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula to visit Cathedral Cove, Hahei, Hotwater Beach, Whitianga and more.
